Biography:

Named in honour of the legendary cellist of the Borodin Quartet, Valentin Berlinsky, this Zurich-based quartet comprises four of the finest musicians working in Switzerland today. Bartek Nizioł and Wang Xiaoming are concertmasters in the orchestra of the Zurich Opera, and David Greenlees and Alexander Neustroev are principal players in the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra.

Bartek Nizioł has won the Jacques Thibaud and Wieniawski competitions, and Alexander Neustroev was awarded the prize of Best Russian Cellist at the 1997 Rostropovich Competition. Wang Xiaoming is a prizewinner at the Augsburg Leopold Mozart Competition, and David Greenlees has played as guest principal viola with the Philharmonia, London Philharmonic, and BBC Symphony orchestras.

As chamber musicians they have worked with such artists as Martha Argerich, Julia Fischer and Radu Lupu, and in 2010 they founded the Valentin Berlinsky Quartet to explore the masterpieces of the string quartet repertoire.

The quartet has invitations to perform at the Gstaad Festival as well as concerts in Holland, Poland, China and Switzerland.
