
Narek Arutyunian (clarinet)
Biography:
Arutyunian was born in 1992 in Gyumri, Armenia, and moved to Moscow, Russia, at age three. As a teenager, he won first prizes in two international competitions. His education includes studies at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, The Juilliard School, and a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music under Charles Neidich. Conductor Vladimir Spivakov gifted him his current clarinet. Arutyunian resides in New York.
In January 2025, Arutyunian debuted with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto. In October 2025, he is scheduled for a chamber music performance at the Greenwich House Music School in New York with violinist Deborah Buck, cellist Raman Ramakrishnan, and pianist-composer Bruce Wolosoff.
The Washington Post has praised his playing for its passionate depths and technical skill. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Boston Pops and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. His recital performances have taken him to venues like Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Louvre Auditorium. Arutyunian has also participated in festivals such as the Marlboro Music Festival.
