Biography:

Lauded for ‘delicate yet virtuosic’ playing (BBC Music Magazine) and ‘seamless subtleties of tone colour’ with ‘plenty of edge’ (The Strad ), Swiss-French-German cellist Christoph Croisé is a singular artist whose multifaceted musicality transcends boundaries.

Equally at home as a performer and composer, Croisé is among the rare musicians today who embody the centuries-old tradition of the composing virtuoso, expressing his voice shaped by influences ranging from Baroque and Classical to Jazz and electronic music.

Since his debut at Carnegie Hall at age 17, Croisé has performed in many of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, among them Wigmore Hall, Philharmonie Berlin, Konzerthaus Vienna and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. He has appeared as a soloist with renowned orchestras such as the Munich Radio Orchestra, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Camerata Zurich and Cape Town Philharmonic under the baton of conductors including Michael Sanderling, Mario Venzago and Maurice Steger.

A winner of numerous international competitions, including the Schoenfeld and Brahms Competitions and the Swiss Ambassador’s Award, he is also a sought-after chamber musician, collaborating with artists such as Andrey Baranov, Oxana Shevchenko and Dmitry Sitkovetsky. His discography includes acclaimed recordings on AVIE, Quartz, and Genuin and boasts accolades such as the Pizzicato Supersonic Award and ResMusica’s Clef d’Or. His albums have amassed over 30 million streams worldwide.

Croisé is a passionate advocate of both contemporary music and historically informed performance. He has premiered numerous works, including compositions by Daniel Schnyder and Marius Felix Lange, and has recorded Bach’s Cello Suites on a 1720 Baroque cello.

As a composer and conductor, he frequently leads performances of his own works and directs the Beyond Modern Orchestra. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of the innovative Swiss festival Niederlenzer Musiktage.

Croisé performs on a rare Italian cello crafted in 1680.
