Biography:

Born in Geneva, Damien Bachmann comes from a family of musicians. One of the best- known and most charismatic clarinettists of his generation, he has won prizes in more than 20 national and international competitions and appeared in all the major European and Asian musical centres. The press wax lyrical about the character of his playing, describing him as a ‘gifted musician’ who has a ‘lightness and unbounded freedom to his playing’; a ‘phenomenal clarinettist’ with regard to expressivity and virtuosity (Cronica muzicală, 2020). His chamber partners include Janine Jansen, Andrey Baranov and the Quatuor Ébène. He and cellist Christoph Croisé have been working together for many years and have been performing the major works in the repertoire for clarinet and cello together for over a decade now. Damien Bachmann also loves working as a soloist and has appeared with the Sinfonieorchester Basel, the Geneva Chamber Orchestra and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, among others. In recent years he has served on the jury panels of various international competitions several times, as well as giving masterclasses in Switzerland, China and Romania. Damien Bachmann is a ‘Buffet Crampon Artist’ and plays their Tosca and Prestige instruments. Since August 2022 he has taught at the Musik-Akademie Basel.
